Rangikawea turns 13 ..

My Rangikawea turned 13 on the 9th of Feb. As his birthday falls on a Sunday this year, he had 2 friends over on the Friday night before and activities on the saturday.

Kawea was really great. He only asked for 2 friends to come over one from school and one from church. They all seemed to get along really well. Friday night was Nacho's and Banana Ice cream Splits. The boys then watched movies and hung out in the 'man cave'.

Saturday morning Paint balling was on the agenda. Mid day we arrived at Woodhill Forest - about 25 min from our house. The boys ( Nauvoo, Teancum and Dad included) suited up for their day of fun. The age limit was 10 to participate. I am sooo glad of this - can you imagine Hikawera and Renata running around wth a paintball gun?? (yeah NAAH!)

Then they were sent off to collect their wepons.

Gun Shed in the "hot zone"
And marched off to complete their first mission!

sorry couldn't get a shot in front of the netting.. adds to the effects I suppose..

With only 100 bullets each they did really really well. They played for about 2 1/2 hours.

When they were all hot and happy, we went to the pool with some lunch to cool down.

On Sunday a yummy banana cake was sent to church to have with the Young Men.

Happy Birthday my big boy!!

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. (his first 2 days was a 2 day treck in the bush and the only way out was via rescue helecopter – not an option thanks) Just the thought of him possibly gett...

The lost Necklace - by Nauvoo Puriri

Nauvoo and Hikawera had student led conferences last week. It was great to see their progress in class. I love how each child has a set of goals they knowingly must work towards. When they achieve this goal they work on another goal. Hikawera is a bit of a dark horse... full of surprises. He does really well in class and he is achieving great results. He has been at school since June 7th and one of his goals is to know 50 sight words by the end of this term. He already knows 21 words (tested him on monday of this week). It is such a rewarding feeling watching him write and spell correctly these words. I was sooo impressed. (needless to say with the amount of praises I gave him because I was so impressed will keep him wanting to succeed I am sure!) Nauvoo's teacher loves to describe her as a "little sponge". She soaks everything in and retains it. Nauvoo also has goals to which one of them with her spelling was to move up to the next set, which this week she excitedly ca...

Return to Virtue

In recent times, for me I have come to realize that life can be quite difficult. There are amazing days, filled with wonderful friends and happy moments, then there are days where it feels like I am sitting in a dark corner and my legs won't move to turn the light on. Today I watched this clip. I have seen it before but it reminded me of a focus I can draw my energy to. Now even though it is a clip from my 'church' it is something that can be applied to ANYONE's life, especially, I feel, if you have children of your own or feel a little lost yourself. If anything, it can help you to become a better you... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WyiSSBHJy6I I hope you find it as uplifting as I did today. Have a beautiful day.
