Farm Life Views

There is something to be said about farm life. There is always a story to tell. Not a day goes by where you either laugh, cry and outright blessed and grateful for gods Creations.  Finally being back on our farm and living there has opened a whole new world for me. The last time I was on a property was our family’s 50acre block 10  min out of Kingaroy. The dry hot Australian outback. Although resisting the move at first, the words of my mothers has rang true in my ears so often since. “ You would benefit from this, Heidi”.  We I have.  I had a wonderful time learning to work then. Only now on our farm here in Kaukapakapa, do I have the responsibility and the life journey ahead to make it wonderful for our future generations. As my ancestors and those before me did, I am now working and toiling for our future posterity.  Strangely enough, most days this is the very drive to get me out working the land.  I am quickly learning that I can not sit on the fence either. I can not hope to live and be in the “city” and “on the farm”. I have to embrace my new lifestyle withboth arms and rejoice in its beauty and simplicity. How much closer can you feel to your Heavenly Father than when you are standing in his creations listeneing to the wind gust through the tree tops or  staring up at the sheet of stars falling on our heads at night.  The Fantails playing all around and our kids in gumboots running through the grass.

So many stories, so much to tell. It all begins and continue it shall…………………….

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. (his first 2 days was a 2 day treck in the bush and the only way out was via rescue helecopter – not an option thanks) Just the thought of him possibly gett...
I LOVE the movie 'Tangled'. It is such a fun movie and suits my humor to a 'T'. I watched it the other weekend with my kids, and have at times been reminded of that funny song " I've got a Dream". Yes you know the one. Anyway one day I was miraculously sitting in the car by my self. (The miraculous thing was that I was by myself, how often does that happen...) So I thought about what MY dreams are, not the kids not my darling husbands but MY dream. I was reminded the ultimate dream for me would be to be able to sing all day every day. Write music (that people would actually LOVE and not just say so to be polite) To be able to sing all day for a living... for LIFE! That is my dream. Dream on right?! Well I also reminded too that you have to make your own dreams come true. Life is not a movie... well at least for me anyway... we need to have our dreams and then go about making those dreams come true. Where possible ofcourse, I don't think the dream of...

teaching independance

I like to think I encourage independance in our home. Helping our kids to be confident that they can do many things on their own. making themselves something to eat is one of these things. For the older boys, I have taught how to cook, the younger ones it is making a sandwich, or whipping cream, making cordial drinks (which they are sooo much better than me now)  even mixing pancake mixture.. Since we watched the Junior Masterchef competition on TV, our kids have really enjoyed getting in there. Arama has made dinner for almost the last week and a half. It was first a trade off so he wouldn't do the dishes after but he seems to be enjoying it. I am more than happy to accomodate too as they will be able to feed themselves when they get bigger - mission etc. Hikawera has also risen to the challenge or mastering the skill of getting himself something to eat. He often hums when he does it (that means he is happy). This day, I watched him place out the 5 slices of bread and them syst...
