Baby girl turns 7!

Yesterday saw our baby girl turn 7 years old. Nauvoo has been very excited counting down the days to her big day, letting everybody know.
The day started early, as we knew it would, Nauvoo was up with the big boys about 5:30am. Pink pancake breakfast was on the menu, dusted with fairy dust (icing sugar). A happy start to the day. Even Rakaipaka was awake.

A CTR locket was waiting for her along with some goodies, which was happily placed around her neck.

On the way to school, the fog was still thick. When I climbed out of the car to close the gate behind us, I saw this. I hope the photo's do it justice. The light streaming through the fog and trees looked really cool.

The country side around us looked like this.... (is this cooling you down in fiji??)

Nauvoo took these 2 shots
After dropping Nauvoo off to school, the boys and I were on a mission. Birthday cake time. A friend and my closest 'member' neighbour (10 min away) let us use her oven so we were off.
A few hours later we emerged with this.

Hikawera and Renata both helped put the flowers on. I was so impressed at how well they both did. Here they are pointing to one of the flowers they did. Renata even thoughtfully put a mickey mouse face on it at the bottom... see? (the pink, green and orange 3 together at the bottom).

Nauvoo requested for her birthday to be spent at MacDonalds, so we were in for a treat. The closest MacD's is a 1/2 hour drive away in Orewa. This restaurant is actually owned by our branch president..
Anyway, when we arrived some of Nauvoo's cousins were waiting. She was so excited.  The play area was warm and empty, so we soon claimed that spot. As the kids went wild in there enjoying their freedom, we ordered. The funny thing about this was that after we placed the order a voice came from the kitchen, "Is that one order?". A quick response, "Yes" found a colorful combination of words was muttered and the kitchen came alive. People from all over the place appeared to help!! (it wasn't that big of an order, the restaurant was really quiet and it was at that time a small "rush" of people decided to come in hehe) A few minutes (or so) later we were all enjoying our meal.

A the formalities of the cake, Nauvoo was given a Netball and beautiful Journal. Here are a few shots of the night.

Look at this face... seriously he has some funny facials!

Renata aka 'Sleeping Beauty' slept through most of the
evening, waking up with his adorable 'wake up face'
close to the end of the night. I think his eyes couldn't
believe he was in MacDonalds. What a great way to wake up!

The Macdonalds play area soon turned into a Netball court,
and you know how compedetive our kids are..

All in all a wonderful  Day for our daughter. Happy Birthday Princess Nauvoo.

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. (his first 2 days was a 2 day treck in the bush and the only way out was via rescue helecopter – not an option thanks) Just the thought of him possibly gett

teaching independance

I like to think I encourage independance in our home. Helping our kids to be confident that they can do many things on their own. making themselves something to eat is one of these things. For the older boys, I have taught how to cook, the younger ones it is making a sandwich, or whipping cream, making cordial drinks (which they are sooo much better than me now)  even mixing pancake mixture.. Since we watched the Junior Masterchef competition on TV, our kids have really enjoyed getting in there. Arama has made dinner for almost the last week and a half. It was first a trade off so he wouldn't do the dishes after but he seems to be enjoying it. I am more than happy to accomodate too as they will be able to feed themselves when they get bigger - mission etc. Hikawera has also risen to the challenge or mastering the skill of getting himself something to eat. He often hums when he does it (that means he is happy). This day, I watched him place out the 5 slices of bread and them syst

Flashback - Rotten teeth?

I was putting the boys to bed the other night, and as usual you go through the usual teeth toilet, bed etc... I asked Rakai, did you brush your teeth? He said no. (He was honest) So, I said, "do you want your teeth to fall out while you are asleep?" He answered with a sad look on his face, "yes, cause then I can get some money". Oh that was such a Rakai thing to say!! I had to counter that (trying not to laugh) by telling him that the tooth fairy doesn't give money for rotten teeth! Then, Hikawera pipes up saying he got $5 for a rotten (dead actually from being banged) tooth that the dentist had to pull out. I had to go into real damage control then!! Rakai comes out with the funniest things sometimes. He is golden.
