Pruning Know how

Trees, we are talking trees here on our farm. Now is the time to plant our fruit trees. There is a Nursery 5 minutes down the road so decided to go and check it out. The staff were really great and I enjoyed talking to them about all I could. The reminder of how little I know or how much I have to learn.

I enrolled in a tree seminar (which turned out to be a pruning seminar) that Friday. I took Rakaipaka with me. It was really great. They have a sculpture garden we walked through and he showed us various fruit trees and gave us lots of advise and information. I really enjoyed it.

The weather of course was being it's unpredictable self, rain sun and well, Hail!!! I had noticed it was on the cool side but when we were huddled under the umbrella in one of the showery times, we noticed the hail. About 5 minutes of it. I am amazed at how much hail we are getting. (more due tomorrow a low of 4 degrees is expected tomorrow.

Here are a few of the 'sculptures' that we saw.

Spider web on the gate

This has HEAPS of Macdonald toys all over it.

I am looking forward to getting into it at home.

Flashback - Rotten teeth?

I was putting the boys to bed the other night, and as usual you go through the usual teeth toilet, bed etc... I asked Rakai, did you brush your teeth? He said no. (He was honest) So, I said, "do you want your teeth to fall out while you are asleep?" He answered with a sad look on his face, "yes, cause then I can get some money". Oh that was such a Rakai thing to say!! I had to counter that (trying not to laugh) by telling him that the tooth fairy doesn't give money for rotten teeth! Then, Hikawera pipes up saying he got $5 for a rotten (dead actually from being banged) tooth that the dentist had to pull out. I had to go into real damage control then!! Rakai comes out with the funniest things sometimes. He is golden.

Volleyball

Teancum really enjoys playing volleyball. He jumped right into the teams at boys high, and within a couple of weeks, he was in the 'A' team. They came runner up this season to a solid Hillcrest school team. An awesome group of boys.

Hakarimata's again!

Yes, we did it! We climbed the Hakarimata's again. Still hard, still so rewarding!!
