Baking

I love baking. It has a therapeutic effect on me. I have been collecting recipes for over 15 years. Not too many of them have been tried so I thought I would make a new goal. I would try to bake a new dish - mains and desserts, each week. This way I will not just make desserts, and the good ones will be used again and I will share them with you. It is exciting to be able to use new ingredients I have not used before. As some my dear friends are GREAT chefs, I will happily accept any tips or variations and be even more happy to try it again!!

Today, I thought I would make a lemon cream cake along with some vanilla muffins with banana and strawberry icing.  The bowls were happily liked clean by Rangikawea and Renata John. Renata periodically popped his head up and kept asking, "Is the baking ready?"
Well there is only one way to stop those kinds of questions. Get him to help and he did quite happily. It went something like this:

Mix the frosting.......

Spread the frosting......

And my favorite.....

Lick the frosting!!!!!

I must say I had a good laugh, don't worry his routine only lasted for about 3 cupcakes then when he realized he could actually eat one, he was gone!!!

The lemon cake is for dessert tonight so I will let you know how that one goes, I will say, it smells soooo  yummy!!!

Hakarimata's again!

Yes, we did it! We climbed the Hakarimata's again. Still hard, still so rewarding!!

"I'll be your best friend?!"

My baby never fails to have a “such a cutie” moment every day. I don’t know what it is about him, perhaps knowing he is the baby, or simply that he was such a good baby, that I have noticed these little moment s more.   I have to share this one with you. It has happened twice this last week. We are sitting in the car and Rakaipaka calls out and asks for something. Usually it is a lolly or chocolate or something I don’t have at that time. Anyway I call out ‘no’, and the response comes back, “Oooh, Ill be your best friend”!!! Ha How cute is that!! He is all of what 2 years old and is already trying that line on his mother!!! Now the question is posed…. Which one of his siblings did he hear that from!!!!

Monday Night Fun

For those in the same faith as our family - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you would be familiar with Family Home Evening. We have ours most times on a Monday evening. Last night we decided to go into the local school and play netball and on the play gyms that are there. It was a lot of fun. I think I surprised Teancum at how good I was at shooting into the Netball goal. Even Renata, Hikawera and Rakaipaka had a go. There are 2 play gyms at the school. One smaller one at the front of the school for the younger children and one really big one at the back in front of the school pool. This one is really high. If you look at the photo with Teancum in it and note that he is about 2 inches off being taller than me, you will get an idea of how tall this is. The slide is perfect for speed!! (and you know ours LOVE speed). To make it that much more exciting they decided to sit on their shirts and slide down. Needless to say they had a ball....        ...
