Introducing Teddy

Being winter in NZ has been a reality check for our family coming back from Fiji. We have found though, great success in the good old Hot water bottle. This keeps us warm at night, even to the point some of our kids kick the blankets off! (crazy I tell you)

Rakaipaka my 1 1/2 year old is now growing his personality. You know the time when they stop being your little baby and start showing their character! I love this period, it is full of a lot of smiles and laughs as you watch and take in how they behave. (like at the moment, he has a Little People Helicopter and is zooming it around the 'sky'. sound effects and all). anyway back to the story....

Rakaipaka's hot waterbottle is a little yellow teddy with the bottle inside. He LOVES it. He knows it is bed time and is happy to snuggle when he has bottle in one had and 'teddy' in the other. It keeps him so cozy and warm all night. After not seeing him all day yesterday I found it soooo cute to see him in bed last night I had to take these shots. That is why you are now formally introduced to the 9th member of our family -'Teddy'.

"I'll be your best friend?!"

My baby never fails to have a “such a cutie” moment every day. I don’t know what it is about him, perhaps knowing he is the baby, or simply that he was such a good baby, that I have noticed these little moment s more.   I have to share this one with you. It has happened twice this last week. We are sitting in the car and Rakaipaka calls out and asks for something. Usually it is a lolly or chocolate or something I don’t have at that time. Anyway I call out ‘no’, and the response comes back, “Oooh, Ill be your best friend”!!! Ha How cute is that!! He is all of what 2 years old and is already trying that line on his mother!!! Now the question is posed…. Which one of his siblings did he hear that from!!!!

Flashback - Rotten teeth?

I was putting the boys to bed the other night, and as usual you go through the usual teeth toilet, bed etc... I asked Rakai, did you brush your teeth? He said no. (He was honest) So, I said, "do you want your teeth to fall out while you are asleep?" He answered with a sad look on his face, "yes, cause then I can get some money". Oh that was such a Rakai thing to say!! I had to counter that (trying not to laugh) by telling him that the tooth fairy doesn't give money for rotten teeth! Then, Hikawera pipes up saying he got $5 for a rotten (dead actually from being banged) tooth that the dentist had to pull out. I had to go into real damage control then!! Rakai comes out with the funniest things sometimes. He is golden.

Monday Night Fun

For those in the same faith as our family - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you would be familiar with Family Home Evening. We have ours most times on a Monday evening. Last night we decided to go into the local school and play netball and on the play gyms that are there. It was a lot of fun. I think I surprised Teancum at how good I was at shooting into the Netball goal. Even Renata, Hikawera and Rakaipaka had a go. There are 2 play gyms at the school. One smaller one at the front of the school for the younger children and one really big one at the back in front of the school pool. This one is really high. If you look at the photo with Teancum in it and note that he is about 2 inches off being taller than me, you will get an idea of how tall this is. The slide is perfect for speed!! (and you know ours LOVE speed). To make it that much more exciting they decided to sit on their shirts and slide down. Needless to say they had a ball....        ...
