Time out in Perth

For the first time that I can remember in my married life I finally decided to have a little Time out. My mum offered for me to go to her place in Perth and spend some time there. Now who doesn't like to go and see their momma's ! I haven't been to perth, so it was a great opportunity. As preparations were made, things seemed to fall in place which was great.

We planned it over NZ's Labour weekend so that Arama could take care of the kids. It turned out he took the kids for a road trip to Hastings for his Dad's birthday and were able to catch up with cousins they hadn't seen for a long time.

You really get to appreciate how big Australia is when you have to travel 10 hours to get from New Zealand to Perth. Perth was a lovely hot place. Dry in places but the Australia kind of beautiful. From the moment I arrived I was spoilt. Steward is such Old School Gentleman. The kind you would hope that your sons would learn and use. I loved watching him dote on mum. It was so lovely. Mum was amazing, and such good medicine for me.

The Day after I arrived (after I slept a full 12 hours un interrupted and a big bed to myself.) Mum and I's first stop was the Perth Temple.

We went to this amazing pizza place. I can honestly say it is the best pizza I have ever tasted (and being me I was trying to disect it to see just why) Lots of cheese on the base, organic produce on top red onions on them too.. mmmmso good.

We ate the pizza at the beach. My first encounter with the Indian ocean. Lovely and cool waves and colour was so beautiful. The sunset equally as pretty.

I was able to go to the Perth Temple with mum for a session, and have a picnic in Perth City. It was so good to see the native Australian bush in the Botanical Gardens.

We took a free bus ride around freemantle then went for a walk to the old prison there, and had lunch at this yummy Fish and Chips shop.
Just 'loungin' really cool sun seats on rail tracks in Freemantle

After lunch, we headed back to Perth on the river cat – ferry. It was so nice to see the city from a different angle.
Hello Perth

When we arrived back in perth we saw Kangaroo’s in the capital… hehe  it was so cool to see these statues. I felt so Australian at that point of time. I love all the Australiana things there are to see.

I was really spoilt while being there, I so appreciated being able to go and am now converted to the once a year mummy time out.

Thank you to everyone that helped make it possible for me to go.

  1. Your mums & Stewarts house is so the best medicine. I slept so well, eat so well and was so revived too. I can't wait to visit with her again. They have this amazing spirit in their home. Awesome. It was so good you got to spend some precious time with her.

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. (his first 2 days was a 2 day treck in the bush and the only way out was via rescue helecopter – not an option thanks) Just the thought of him possibly gett

teaching independance

I like to think I encourage independance in our home. Helping our kids to be confident that they can do many things on their own. making themselves something to eat is one of these things. For the older boys, I have taught how to cook, the younger ones it is making a sandwich, or whipping cream, making cordial drinks (which they are sooo much better than me now)  even mixing pancake mixture.. Since we watched the Junior Masterchef competition on TV, our kids have really enjoyed getting in there. Arama has made dinner for almost the last week and a half. It was first a trade off so he wouldn't do the dishes after but he seems to be enjoying it. I am more than happy to accomodate too as they will be able to feed themselves when they get bigger - mission etc. Hikawera has also risen to the challenge or mastering the skill of getting himself something to eat. He often hums when he does it (that means he is happy). This day, I watched him place out the 5 slices of bread and them syst

Flashback - Rotten teeth?

I was putting the boys to bed the other night, and as usual you go through the usual teeth toilet, bed etc... I asked Rakai, did you brush your teeth? He said no. (He was honest) So, I said, "do you want your teeth to fall out while you are asleep?" He answered with a sad look on his face, "yes, cause then I can get some money". Oh that was such a Rakai thing to say!! I had to counter that (trying not to laugh) by telling him that the tooth fairy doesn't give money for rotten teeth! Then, Hikawera pipes up saying he got $5 for a rotten (dead actually from being banged) tooth that the dentist had to pull out. I had to go into real damage control then!! Rakai comes out with the funniest things sometimes. He is golden.
