Hikawera turns 6

In May/June we have 4 birthdays two weeks apart from each other.  Early June is Hikawera's Birthday. He was so excited about this birthday, I don't know why! He would remind us every day for about a week and a half before hand that his birthday is coming up! Wow the pressure.

Arama had to go to Samoa on his birthday for the 50th jubilee/Anniversary but we made it a fun day anyway. We went shopping the night before for his presents and found a great science kit that you can make your own glow in the dark goo.. He actually really enjoyed it.

 We had a yummy chocolate cake for dessert and some more little presents. He was excited to see what dad would be doing with him when he returned.

Arama came home from Samoa Early Tuesday morning. He was planning to take Hikawera to Rainbows end (theme park) but the weather was not too kind. Instead we took advantage of the half price Tuesdays at the movies and we took everyone to see "The Avengers". Awesome movies. 
The kids were so excited as they have not been to the movie theatre since we came back from Fiji... I loved hearing the boys laugh and really get into the movie. Happy Birthday Hik!!

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. I LOVE the movie 'Tangled'. It is such a fun movie and suits my humor to a 'T'. I watched it the other weekend with my kids, and have at times been reminded of that funny song " I've got a Dream". Yes you know the one. Anyway one day I was miraculously sitting in the car by my self. (The miraculous thing was that I was by myself, how often does that happen...) So I thought about what MY dreams are, not the kids not my darling husbands but MY dream. I was reminded the ultimate dream for me would be to be able to sing all day every day. Write music (that people would actually LOVE and not just say so to be polite) To be able to sing all day for a living... for LIFE! That is my dream. Dream on right?! Well I also reminded too that you have to make your own dreams come true. The lost Necklace - by Nauvoo Puriri

Nauvoo and Hikawera had student led conferences last week. It was great to see their progress in class. I love how each child has a set of goals they knowingly must work towards. When they achieve this goal they work on another goal. Hikawera is a bit of a dark horse... full of surprises. He does really well in class and he is achieving great results. He has been at school since June 7th and one of his goals is to know 50 sight words by the end of this term. He already knows 21 words (tested him on monday of this week). It is such a rewarding feeling watching him write and spell correctly these words. I was sooo impressed. (needless to say with the amount of praises I gave him because I was so impressed will keep him wanting to succeed I am sure!) Nauvoo's teacher loves to describe her as a "little sponge".
