Two little miracles

Before I begin my entry I need to explain how important it is for our children to catch the school buses in the mornings. We live 12kms from the Primary school and 35kms from the High school where our children attend. (NB:the schools are in the opposite direction to each other). We are very blessed to have free school buses that take our children to and from school. If one of our children misses the bus, then they either miss school or I have to take them. My car is not the most economical car – ok she is a thirsty girl- and on a budget, so driving for an hour and a half all up to get all my children to school is the absolute last resort. We drive 5 minutes north to ‘the old fire station’ where both buses turn around. This Year also, we have a family goal to have 100% attendance for school. My children are loving school, especially my Big Boy Teancum. So in simple terms catching the bus could be described as “imperative”. Now for the story…..
I am sure everyone is used to the morning rushes for school and buses. Our home is no different. This morning it was one of those days. However this time the kids were ready and Mum couldn’t find her keys to the car!! As you can imagine frustrations increased as time went on, then at 7:45am I had exhausted what I though all options.  The 3 backups I called were also unable to accommodate. Foreseeing that now ALL my children would not be able to make it to school because I couldn’t find the Keys. I began to lose it… I stormed into my room with a door slamming behind me with the intention to do what I do best in these times…. Have a good cry. Instead I was reminded to pray. After my not so Christ like behavior earlier, for a moment I thought how could I ask for my Heavenly Fathers help. But I did. I began by telling him what the problem was, I can’t find the keys, the kids are going to miss school (remember, we have a goal for 100% attendance). Then I took a deep breath and asked specifically for his help. “Please help me to know where to find my keys”. No sooner had I finished my prayer I had the thought to check in the petrol container I had unloaded the night before. I had completely forgotten about it. There they were.  Answers to prayers do not always come this way for me, but it was a humble reminder of the importance of praying and being specific. If the intentions of your heart are pure, you will receive an answer. The other part too was that after running around like a crazy woman, I humbled myself enough to be able to ask, and listen for the answer.
I was so very grateful for the help to find the car keys. As the order came “you’ve got 3 seconds to get in the car” I prepared myself for what to do now. We have a 10 minute window pocket between buses for primary and High school. This had already lapsed. As we drove down our hill I caught a glimpse of the primary school bus heading south to school. If I chased that bus Teancum would most definitely miss his then we face the 1 hour journey to get him to school….late. So, we headed north to see if we could catch up with the high school bus going North East. You can imagine the gratitude and amazement when I saw the bus still sitting there about to leave. What a blessing, well to me a small miracle. Thinking about it now, I am sure that my son was giving up silent prayers too.  I am so grateful that I have a knowledge that I can pray and be answered. I am so grateful for a kind bus driver who felt to wait just a little bit longer today. I am also grateful for the quiet example my son set me today.
2 little miracles that blessed my family today.

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. (his first 2 days was a 2 day treck in the bush and the only way out was via rescue helecopter – not an option thanks) Just the thought of him possibly gett

teaching independance

I like to think I encourage independance in our home. Helping our kids to be confident that they can do many things on their own. making themselves something to eat is one of these things. For the older boys, I have taught how to cook, the younger ones it is making a sandwich, or whipping cream, making cordial drinks (which they are sooo much better than me now)  even mixing pancake mixture.. Since we watched the Junior Masterchef competition on TV, our kids have really enjoyed getting in there. Arama has made dinner for almost the last week and a half. It was first a trade off so he wouldn't do the dishes after but he seems to be enjoying it. I am more than happy to accomodate too as they will be able to feed themselves when they get bigger - mission etc. Hikawera has also risen to the challenge or mastering the skill of getting himself something to eat. He often hums when he does it (that means he is happy). This day, I watched him place out the 5 slices of bread and them syst

Flashback - Rotten teeth?

I was putting the boys to bed the other night, and as usual you go through the usual teeth toilet, bed etc... I asked Rakai, did you brush your teeth? He said no. (He was honest) So, I said, "do you want your teeth to fall out while you are asleep?" He answered with a sad look on his face, "yes, cause then I can get some money". Oh that was such a Rakai thing to say!! I had to counter that (trying not to laugh) by telling him that the tooth fairy doesn't give money for rotten teeth! Then, Hikawera pipes up saying he got $5 for a rotten (dead actually from being banged) tooth that the dentist had to pull out. I had to go into real damage control then!! Rakai comes out with the funniest things sometimes. He is golden.
