Saturday Afternoon 'On the Town'

I decided one Saturday that we would go to town for the afternoon. The weather was not too flash and we just needed a change of scenery. Nauvoo had already taken off with her Aunty Jacque and cousins to town, so the boys and I set off.
We had a look around the shops. I was able to buy a cool little pocket camera (for a fantastic price) for the kids. They are old enough now to be able to have a little camera to take to school trips, camps etc. Seeing as Arama had a Zoo trip and Kawea went on Choir tour that same week, it seemed perfect timing. Next was Rebel sports where arama wanted to spend some money he had earned on a new school bag.

They were having some great sales and he was able to get one flash looking bag half price. We had a cruizy time looking through the store, the kids found balls they liked and had to try the weight machines and boxing bags. I was grateful the skateboards were high up on the wall and the scooters had a plastic strip through the wheels so they could not be ridden.

The boys and I walked down to the Warehouse where we spent the next hour or so browsing the shelves, testing toys, bikes, scooters, skateboards and all.

Now we don’t usually do this but the kids did enjoy circling round the toy aisles. To try to deter Rakai from riding the skateboard I said; NO helmet no ride… he disappeared for a  second and came back with a helmet. A fellow shopper who had heard the conversation had a good laugh at the situartion!!

Yes mum was holding her own too...
We finally left and stopped by Domino’s for their famous 4.95 pizza. Great for big families with hungry boys. While we waited for them to cook,., we had an ice cream/ (yes real treat day) Each of the boys showed us the different ways to eat an icecream.

The Nastiest bug creates a war Zone

This entry has no photo's but as you read on you will see why. I did however need to be recorded for posterity!!! and to say We survived. Renata had been at school only 2 days, He went to his Last Montessori   Class on a Thursday. Friday morning Came and he began to throw up. Within the next 3 days 5 of my 6 children were down with the nastiest vomiting/diarrhea bug I have ever encountered. Arama was away on business, so I was on my own. This bug has had a reputation in our community, taking no prisoners and not missing any members of the family. Yes that bad. I was grateful Arama was away, but my big boy was due to go on his Pinacle Camp for a week with school on the Monday. I prayed that he would not get it. It was Fast Sunday the Sunday before so we both fasted he would not get sick before or ON his camp. (his first 2 days was a 2 day treck in the bush and the only way out was via rescue helecopter – not an option thanks) Just the thought of him possibly gett...
I LOVE the movie 'Tangled'. It is such a fun movie and suits my humor to a 'T'. I watched it the other weekend with my kids, and have at times been reminded of that funny song " I've got a Dream". Yes you know the one. Anyway one day I was miraculously sitting in the car by my self. (The miraculous thing was that I was by myself, how often does that happen...) So I thought about what MY dreams are, not the kids not my darling husbands but MY dream. I was reminded the ultimate dream for me would be to be able to sing all day every day. Write music (that people would actually LOVE and not just say so to be polite) To be able to sing all day for a living... for LIFE! That is my dream. Dream on right?! Well I also reminded too that you have to make your own dreams come true. Life is not a movie... well at least for me anyway... we need to have our dreams and then go about making those dreams come true. Where possible ofcourse, I don't think the dream of...

teaching independance

I like to think I encourage independance in our home. Helping our kids to be confident that they can do many things on their own. making themselves something to eat is one of these things. For the older boys, I have taught how to cook, the younger ones it is making a sandwich, or whipping cream, making cordial drinks (which they are sooo much better than me now)  even mixing pancake mixture.. Since we watched the Junior Masterchef competition on TV, our kids have really enjoyed getting in there. Arama has made dinner for almost the last week and a half. It was first a trade off so he wouldn't do the dishes after but he seems to be enjoying it. I am more than happy to accomodate too as they will be able to feed themselves when they get bigger - mission etc. Hikawera has also risen to the challenge or mastering the skill of getting himself something to eat. He often hums when he does it (that means he is happy). This day, I watched him place out the 5 slices of bread and them syst...
