Nauvoo turns 8!

This birthday, even though I have seen it on the calendar for the whole year, crept up on me! Perhaps it was not subconciously wanting to admit my baby girl is now 8.  Prior to her birthday, we began the preparations.
She was interviewed for her baptism a couple of weeks earlier. It was a new feeling when Elder Nelson, came out of the interview and complimented us on how well we are doing as parents. Our children know the gospel foundations and are good children. I quite often doubt I am even scratching the surface of being close to a good mum, and wonder if it sinks in the truths we teach our children about their heavenly Father and the Gospel. It is a blessing to know we have such wonderful strong spirits who do feel and know the right.

The weekend before Nauvoo's Baptism we took a drive to south Auckland, to where I remembered was a lovely shop with good quality dresses. The mission a white baptism dress. An hour and a half from our house, we found the shop as remembered but was disappointed to find that most of the dresses were spagetti or no straps, where we needed sleeves. I was impressed and quietly so happy that my daughter was equally not impressed at the lack of "modest" dresses available. In the end we decided to...sew her dress.

We drove towards home and stopped into a material shop. WE had a look at some patterns and she discribed what she liked and hoped for in a dress. I am so greatful my mother taught me 1. how to sew and 2. how to make something WITHOUT a pattern.  Nauvoo picked out perfect materials. Pure white, and sparkly overlay.

Sunday, we made her dress. It was so fun and rewarding watching it come together.
The day of the baptism - and her birthday- arrived.

Cousins had driven up from Hamilton (an hour and a half drive) just to attend Nauvoo's baptism.

The girl on the Far right is Nauvoo's good friend from school. She came to stake conference with us the following Sunday. Neive.  It was so great to have cousins in attendance.

Family Shot.

The service was full of memorable moments.
Arama Teancum conducted

Hikawera conducted the opening Song;

Renata John gave the opening Prayer (a wonderful prayer, very thoughtful and all unassisted)

Then there were the talks,
Daddy

cousing Emeka

Cousin Truth

Rakai Entertained through the formalities.

Next Daddy proceeded to perform the baptism with Nauvoo. It was so touching to watch. She looked so beautiful.

Arama had made the water so nice and warm that when she came out, she asked if she could go back in!! How often do you hear that!

After the confirmation, Nauvoo bore her testimony and extended thanks to those who participated and attended.

Rakaipaka conducted the closing song. He was soooo cute. Very confidently stood there unassisted, waving his arm in a circle. EVERYONE had a smile on their faces at the end of the song.

Cousin Tawhaio, said the closing prayer...

Then it was party time!!

"I'll be your best friend?!"

My baby never fails to have a “such a cutie” moment every day. I don’t know what it is about him, perhaps knowing he is the baby, or simply that he was such a good baby, that I have noticed these little moment s more.   I have to share this one with you. It has happened twice this last week. We are sitting in the car and Rakaipaka calls out and asks for something. Usually it is a lolly or chocolate or something I don’t have at that time. Anyway I call out ‘no’, and the response comes back, “Oooh, Ill be your best friend”!!! Ha How cute is that!! He is all of what 2 years old and is already trying that line on his mother!!! Now the question is posed…. Which one of his siblings did he hear that from!!!!

Flashback - Rotten teeth?

I was putting the boys to bed the other night, and as usual you go through the usual teeth toilet, bed etc... I asked Rakai, did you brush your teeth? He said no. (He was honest) So, I said, "do you want your teeth to fall out while you are asleep?" He answered with a sad look on his face, "yes, cause then I can get some money". Oh that was such a Rakai thing to say!! I had to counter that (trying not to laugh) by telling him that the tooth fairy doesn't give money for rotten teeth! Then, Hikawera pipes up saying he got $5 for a rotten (dead actually from being banged) tooth that the dentist had to pull out. I had to go into real damage control then!! Rakai comes out with the funniest things sometimes. He is golden.

Monday Night Fun

For those in the same faith as our family - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you would be familiar with Family Home Evening. We have ours most times on a Monday evening. Last night we decided to go into the local school and play netball and on the play gyms that are there. It was a lot of fun. I think I surprised Teancum at how good I was at shooting into the Netball goal. Even Renata, Hikawera and Rakaipaka had a go. There are 2 play gyms at the school. One smaller one at the front of the school for the younger children and one really big one at the back in front of the school pool. This one is really high. If you look at the photo with Teancum in it and note that he is about 2 inches off being taller than me, you will get an idea of how tall this is. The slide is perfect for speed!! (and you know ours LOVE speed). To make it that much more exciting they decided to sit on their shirts and slide down. Needless to say they had a ball....        ...
