3 Locks and a chain

We had cut a lot of trees down at the beginning of the year with my sisters family and have been slowly working at clearing them and stocking them for fire wood. Cool evenings are now setting in so Arama’s brother (Uncle Ashley) his daughter and brother in law with a truck to collect the wood for their fireplace. They arrived about 1pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The kids loved having a ride with their Uncle on the truck (and eating his lolly stash too) It took all about 20 minutes to load the wood into the BIG truck that they had bought. It was great to see Renata and Rakai helping load the wood. I was amazed at how light the wood was now it is dried out. Logs that took 2 people to carry earlier on in the year, one person was throwing like a football. We stopped for scones and a drink before heading up the hill to latch on the boat so they could take that home to use too. Arama rang earlier that day to tell me 1. Where the keys were to unlock the boat and 2. That there were 3 locks that needed unlocking before the boat would be movable. Here is the bunch of keys he told me to look on. Yeah!!

So, I tried every key, Ashley tried every key and could not find them. Time was ticking on now, netball had begun and they needed to get the truck back to Hamilton. Ashley checked around the boat and only saw the 1 chain and lock around the wheels on one side. I didn’t look. The grass was pretty high around the boat now, so we decided to cut the lock with some daddy mack cutters a friend had lent us.  Doug started to pull the boat but it was not moving too well. I heard a hissing noise and found that one of the back wheels of the boat trailer had become flattened. Nice. Ash said it would be ok. Sort it out when we get the boat out.  We were not having too much luck pulling the boat out – it is over 2 tonne remember – so Ash hooked up to his removal truck full of wood the truck that was going to pull the boat. So it looked like this. Truck – 4wd – boat. They started to pull together then I heard a ping!!! I couldn’t see anything wrong with the boat so they kept pulling. Finally they managed to pull the boat onto the road and guess what was trailing behind it. 2 more locks and a wopping big chain. The ping was the fence that the back of the boat was chained to . 3 locks… Guess what else. I then found the 3 keys for the 3 locks.
Here is the picture of where the boat was and that gaping big hole is where the fence was broken.

"I'll be your best friend?!"

My baby never fails to have a “such a cutie” moment every day. I don’t know what it is about him, perhaps knowing he is the baby, or simply that he was such a good baby, that I have noticed these little moment s more.   I have to share this one with you. It has happened twice this last week. We are sitting in the car and Rakaipaka calls out and asks for something. Usually it is a lolly or chocolate or something I don’t have at that time. Anyway I call out ‘no’, and the response comes back, “Oooh, Ill be your best friend”!!! Ha How cute is that!! He is all of what 2 years old and is already trying that line on his mother!!! Now the question is posed…. Which one of his siblings did he hear that from!!!!

Volleyball

Teancum really enjoys playing volleyball. He jumped right into the teams at boys high, and within a couple of weeks, he was in the 'A' team. They came runner up this season to a solid Hillcrest school team. An awesome group of boys.
